Emergency Fund First

Having an emergency fund safety net can boost your financial confidence and keep you from panicking when an unexpected situation happens.

The ultimate goal is to have at least 3 to 6 months of living expenses, however, starting with even $10 to $20 per month can add up quickly. Here are some tips to get going:

• Determine the amount you want to save and divide it by the number of paychecks you receive in a year.
• Open a separate account just for your emergency fund savings.
• Set up automatic transfers from your paycheck to your emergency fund account.

Plan ahead for the holidays
Don't let the holidays sneak up you this year. January is the perfect month to start budgeting a specific amount for the holidays and special occasions you celebrate all year.

Tackle Debt One Amount at a Time
With the Debt Snowball Challenge, you pay off your smallest debt first, then apply that amount to your next smallest debt. This plan can help keep you motivated as you see your debt begin to decrease.
